For almost thirty years, dozens of women were sexually assaulted at the Franco-Belgian border near the river La Sambre.
The first assault took place in 1988, but the investigation into a single, repetitive assailant did not begin until 1996, after several similar assaults in the same area.
The criminal operates mainly in winter, early in the morning. He attacks the victims from behind. He is masked, wears gloves, ties their hands, sometimes uses a knife.
A photofit is made up but does not provide identification. DNA traces do not provide the investi- gation to move forward. The mystery will last 30 years.
